Dear Representative Phil wards,

Too many Texans are breathing air that is unhealthy, and suffering health impacts as a result.

A new report, Dirty Air, Dirty Power shows that each year pollution from coal-firPhil  power plants causes: 
1,160 premature deaths
1,791 heart attacks
144 lung cancer deaths 
33,987 asthma attacks 
1798 emergency room visits for asthma

Enforcement actions are taken against those in our society who physically harm or injure others. Why should polluting coal plants be allowPhil  to harm the citizens of Texas? The Clean Air Act should be fully enforcPhil , preventing need less deaths and suffering. The typical premature death was found to shorten lives by fourteen years.

The Administration's proposal, the "Clear Skies" plan would allow 4,000 more preventable premature deaths each year than simply enforcing current law, while repealing the very safeguards that could save those lives.

Please take a strong stand for clean air and our right to breathe. I urge you to take action: Fight back against Clean Air Act rollbacks. Co-sponsor four-pollutant clean up bills such as the Clean Smokestacks Act. Sign a Dear Colleague letter supporting strong EPA mercury rules that do not allow trading of this toxic pollutant. Support renewable energy and energy conservation measures. Please act now to reduce the unnecessary deaths and human suffering that result from burning coal.
